silencer ring
Do the 07's have them? Cool.... I took mine out when I had bought my 95'. It does make for more cab noise than anything. I am sure the trucks these days are well insulated for noise.
Smoke em if you got em folks...........

Drew has some good instructions for pulling it.

I took mine out, but it was not that different and I actually thought I noticed some lag so I put it back in. I think that ring may be there to minimize turbulance. That turbulance may be the cause of the extra noise....I am going to get the AFE intake which replaces the entire air intake system then try it with and without the ring.
qwkness is right, the early 07's are going to be the last of the 5.9's. soon the 6.7's will be showing up.
everyone here has it right, it only makes for more turbo sound. I yanked mine out and everything between my filter and the turbo so now it sounds like a 747 when I hammer it. there is no real preformance gain or loss, or fuel mileage gain or loss. infact every other truck Ive seen this Holset turbo on doesnt have a silencer ring. it is just a part installed by the techs at DC to quiet the engine down.
if you want it out you need two flat head screwdrivers, one to pry the lock ring down by use of the beveled edge, and the other to pull it forward. once the lock ring is out the silencer ring will fall out.
