Default Cutout Exhaust

So I am still going around on this exhaust. I would like a 5" turbo back, but for AZ emissions I have to pass an opacity test every two years which means I will most likely need the cat in there I'm sure.

I came up with another idea and that is to keep the stock exhaust system and put a 4" cutout with an electic poewr plate either after the turbo or right after the cat.

One shop told me to put it after the cat as I need some back pressure...is that true?

Thanks!

if you yank the cat & go to a straight out or straight thru muffler, you'll loose all of you backpressure and your low end torque will go down. I speak from my own experience on my '05 and on my '00 gasser. If you go with a 5" turbo back setup, you'll loose alot of low end torque but your top end will scream. your mileage will also suffer. there was 1 memeber I know of that had a 5" setup and he said what i'm repeating here, he's now running a 4" setup.

This is why I feel the electric cutout is a good idea. When towing I can leave it closed or partially open, and when I race I can open it wide and use that top end! So maybe I leave the stock 4" exhaust add the cutout before the cat on the downpipe and maybe change out the stock muffler for something else down the road.

Yeah, I test drove a Sea Ray 270 that had this exact system(dual Cap calls) installed on the 496 Engine....it was freaking sweet.

Corsa is quality! I had their catback on my 2002 SS Camaro for a while and I think it was the best sounding one on the market for a stock car. But add 1 7/8 headers and pull the cats...well then it just droned like mad.

Anyway, I am thinking of QTP and putting it right before the cat

Have either of you tried just replacing the stock muffler with a pipe? I keep reading about the high dollar mullar replacements that have a stright threw design, Why would it not make cents $$$$ to try a pipe inplace of the muffler?

it's too loud under WOT... I have a straight thru designed muffler in place and will be adding an aero turbine muffler next week in front of it. it'll still be straight thru (no cat) but hopefully the aero will bring back some low end lost when going to the magnaflow setup.

Have you tried it with the CAT still on? I was wondering if you had JUST removed the stock muffler and put a pipe in its place. I can see it being load with no CAT and muffler.

I never tried it... I went from a stock setup to the magnaflow w/o the cat and have been there since.

Ok, Thanks Steve, Ya I'am going to leave the CAT on, Before buying a free flow(threw) muffler I was going to try a pipe, That's about as free flow as you could get LoL, If it sounds good than I have saved a few $$ and can put that $$ on something else, If not than I will get a muffler, Thanks again for the input..............
