how do i use idle control on 06 auto?

 

turn the cruise control on, then hit the set button, RPM's should jump to 1000. hitting the accel button will increase RPM's 100 rpm's, decel will do the same.

 

If what Drew said doesn't work, go to your dealer and have them enable the function. Default is off when trucks are shipped.

 

Ok then, thats the problem, i tried and tried with no luck (what a moron!) i will go to dealer tommorow and see if i can get it enabled. Hopefully they dont charge for it. I wonder what else the truck has that is turned of from factory?????????

 

What is the reason for the high idle control?

 

it helps in warming the engine up on cold mornings, turning it on and up to 1200-1300 will help keep carbon from building up in the injectors if you are going to be idleing for a while. and it is also used for PTO's from the transmission.

 

ook to dealer this morning to get high idle set and was supprised , service writer grabed truck brought up front and had a hand held computer and enabled it ,all in 10 min and then i was on my way, cool like the dealer ship and got a chance to talk to the head diesel tech and he told me as long as my mods do not blatently look to be the cause of the problem then i got nothing to worry about. he also said service manager is real leaniant about mods just no stupid stuff that they cant hide from DC

just figure id let you know , P.S e-brake has to be engaged on truck for high idle to work!!

 

is the high idle control only on the 06's? does my 04.5 have it?

 

Just got back from the Dealer myself getting the high idle feature enabled. Very cool feature and should come in handy this winter. Mine is also an 06 and e-brake does not need to be engaged in order for mine to work. Weird that some may require e-brake and others do not???

Dont know about 04.5 but mine had a section in my owners manual talking about it ,Try looking in the owners manual maybe its in there ,if no luck call the dealer and give them vin and they might know.
