exhaust and intakes
what's up everyone? just bought my first DODGE! traded in a 92 f-350 for a 2006 quad cab 2500 CTD 6-speed and what a difference!!!!!! glad i saw THE LIGHT!!! My question is this: I want an exhaust that sounds good and increases power. do i need something to turn up my turbo so i can get the power? will i void my warranty bu doing any of this?
WELCOME, u made a good trade, lol. I had a string of Chevys before I bought mine, I have an 06, 4x4, 2500, quadcab, ctd. As far as exhaust, I went with the Aero Turbine 4040xl, with the 5" tip, and I really like it. I sounds really good, without being too loud, in fact, in the cab it's not loud at all, but outside it makes some noise. A couple of other guys here have gone with it after I did, and they all seem satisifed. This exhaust provides almost the perfect blend of allowing a freer flowing exhaust, but still keeping enough back pressure, and all with a really cool sound. Anyways, its somthing to think about, the list of aftermarket parts is almost endless for these trucks,,,, but,, WELCOME, AND ENJOY. By the way, did you get a 4x4 or 2x4?
I'll let the other guys chime in on what they did to their exhaust. I had a cat-ectomy and left the stock muffler. I like the sound, a slight drone around 21-2200 RPM, but it's not bad.
as far as turning up the power that depends on what you want to do. I have the TST R39 standard box and I can roast the clutch very easy. infact last weekend I attempted a 3rd gear boosted launch with the TST on 8/8. brought the boost to 12lbs and dumped the clutch. truck didnt move much, had a massive black cloud forming at the rear of my truck, RPM's went past 2500rpm and I hadent gone across the intersection yet
I smelled my clutch for 3 miles[8D]
anyway the TST box is probably the best performance box money can buy. if you want a downloader the Smarty from Mads electronics would be the best downloader for these trucks. the programmer for the 06's should be out by the middle of next month since they use a different interface as compared to previous years.
just remember this, the stock clutch can only handle roughly 850 lb-ft of torque, the stock turbo can only cool a max of 425 hp, and the stock fuel pusher pump can only supply the CP3 enough fuel for 400 hp.

I kinda wish I had known about the smarty, I probably woulda gone with it. The Bully Dog on the Psycho,, I mean Crazy Larry setting will make your eyeballs touch the back of ur head. I tried it a couple of times,, you know how when a truck is new, you can smell the paint and what not kinda burning,, at 4K miles I tried the Crazy Larry setting and smelled it again, I wish I woulda had some guages to see what it was burnin.
Intake and exhaust,, I don't think you would have a problem,, Drew can probably comment more on that. The service manager at the dealership didn't say anything to me about mine. Now the programmers and boxes are a different story, like I was told by BD, DENY, DENY, DENY, the programmer doesn't leave any tracks, as long as you remove it.

for intake & exhaust... have a look at the AFE Stage 2 kit... if you go for the pro guard filter (like me, 6" flange, 9" long, massive) AND go for a straight thru exhaust, be prepared for a dip in low end torque and mileage. If you go with the regular filter you should be fine. if you wait a couple of weeks I could tell you what the aero does for low end vs a 30" magnaflow. It'll be about that before i install mine.
on the exhaust, ditch the cat...

it all depends on the service writer. if your in good with them and ask about performance upgrades he may tell you intake and exhaust is ok, but anything past that and your warranty is gone, you know how far you can go then. when I took my truck in to have the drip edge seal replaced the service writer commented on my gages and my BHAF, he said he liked them
since I am my own warranty station I can go as far as I want, as long as I dont fry my PCM, which is a STAR only part.
