Official link?
Can somone point me to an official link that states my 2006 cummins turbo truck does NOT have GLOW plugs. I am having issues proving this to my durmax chevy lover [:'(] friend and I would love to ruin his day by showing him and official spec on the web of this, not forum posting [8D]
I am not sure of a site to view. I am a Dodge Tech and no it does not have glow plugs. This is right out of the service manual about the grid heaters:
The air heater element is used to heat incoming air to the intake manifold. This is done to help engine starting and improve driveability with cool or cold outside temperatures.
Electrical supply for the air heater element is controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM) through the air heater relay. Refer to Intake Manifold Air Heater Relay for more information.
One heavy-duty cable connects the air heater element to the air heater relay. This cable will supply 12 volts to an individual heating element within the heater block assembly.
CAUTION: The heater elements are no longer grounded using an external ground strap. Grounding is now accomplished using two electrically conductive gaskets. Failure to use these gaskets will result in faulty heater element operation.
Refer to the Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures manual for electrical operation and complete description of the intake heaters, including pre-heat and post-heat cycles.

Oh he finally admitted to me, him and his friend who owns a 2005 cummins(who says even he has glow plugs so I should), that I was right, but then my friend started doggin on the fact I better not spray eather or ill blow it sky high. And because I cant do that, Im gunna have hell this winter starting it. It doesnt get below 32 here that often. But I still have to locate where the block heater is or supposed to be, cause I dont think they installed the plug, kinda wanted to do it myself. He also started doggin the fact that after checkin the internet, I have the "weakest" diesle on the market under ford and chevy. See I prove him right and he gets scared that my truck might actually be better than his. [8D]
ha ha ha. . .so what about having the weakest diesel. the 5.9 has been under the hood of these trtrucks since 89 and has not realy had a re-design till 07 when the 6.7 comes out, just ask them how many time ford and chevy have had redesigns of their engines. and no, chevy and ford do not build those engines either.
the heater grid is good for temps down to around -20F, below that the block heater is needed.
and one more thing that will cook their noodle, we get the similar power out of 6 cylinders and 40% fewer parts, Ford uses the 5.9 in their class 7/8/9 trucks which are medium duty trucks that have engines rated at lower power

another thing to add is that feeding 6 cylinders vs 8 allows us to stop less for fuel...
How many CTD owners out there are getting 20+ mpg? several that I've come across... how many fords & chevy's? far fewer...if any.

Tell them to try some ether in their trucks. They will blow up too. Any kind of heater, glow plugs or grid heaters should not use ether. As far as weak... ask them if they wanna hook up and pull to see who's weak. Then ask the Ford guy how much his fuel filter and oil filter cost, compare to yours, they will shut right up.
