Default changing to diesel

I currently own a 96 2500 with the magnum 5.9 V8 (360), and I am looking to make the change to diesel. I bought it a little over a year ago because i wanted a dodge really bad and didnt give a long enough look at the cummins. I am now lookin to find one, and I just have a few questions...Most likely it will be a 1995 or 1996 12V.

1. Do they really run forever and if I bought one with over 150k miles would modding it at that point hurt it or help it to live even longer?

2. What kind of MPG both highway and city would i see from the 12V engine.

3. If i do mod it i am looking to go with a banks system. Does anyone have a 12V with any kind of banks system on it (powerpack, git kit, etc.)? Are you happy with banks?

4. I am looking to get a manual tranny but i may have to get an auto depending on my $$$ restraints. What is good and/or bad about either tranny? and how long do they last???

#1, yes, those engines will easily run forever with very few problems. if you do happen to have any issues it is uauly something other than the engine. when it comes to modding it, go for it, you'll like the truck even more

#2 mileage depends on you and how heavy your foot is. my 24v HPCR engine can hit over 20 if I keep her under 60-65. 70 and things go down a bit more, however I have 4.10's in my axels and thats where I loose my mileage.

#3, banks makes good stuff, their hardware is top notch, however with that said, they are a bit pricey, you can do a little research and find what you need for less.

#4 the NV4500HD is a good tranny, however there are some issues with 5th gear that a good tranny shop and a mig welder can fix. Parts for the New Venture trannies are becomeing harder and harder to come by. when Dodge droped NV and went with the G56 in 05 NV basicaly closed their doors. the auto on the other hand is alright, but just like any other dodge auto it is a valve body and torque converter away frrom being a good tranny.

Hey thanks a lot that really helped me out. I was lookin into those upgrades for the tranny and I just wanted to make sure that was all I needed to do to the tranny to allow to handle the kind of power I am looking to get out of the engine. Thanks again.
