Is Louie a Pitt ??

 

he is an american staff terrier & pointer mix and he's about 2 years old. we adopted him fromt he SPCA at about 1 year old (this is their pic). when we left the place I thought we adopted the dog from hell... he was so strong he nearly ripped my arm off. We took him to 16 weeks of training and I gotta tell you it was the best thing for him. 90% of the time when I walk him it's off leash. we have no problems what soever with other dogs... cats he likes to chase. A few weeks back i was coming back from a neighbors house and there was a cat laying on the grass in front of his house, Lou started walking towards me, then saw the cat and bolted for him. the cat didnt budge, Loue got to within 10' of the cat when I gave him the "stop" command, loud enough to make sure he heard me. stopped him dead in his tracks... he turned and went back to our house w/o bothering the cat. anyways, he's been the most loving dog a family could ever want... and...

WOW props to you Steve for going to the SPCA for your dog. I've got a whole new level of respect for ya.

Training class .... was it the kind where you drop him off for 16 weeks, or is it the type where the family participates?

uh no, he's screwed... he has to put up with me lol. he's about 2 years old now, we got him at about 11 months. We took him to Pet Smart... their program has the owners involved in the training process. it also helps socialize all the dogs in the class.
