Exhaust
I have an 06' dodge diesel. I am wondering if anyone has removed the muffler only and let the catalytic converter on and then put a piece of straight pipe on in the place of the muffler. If so does anyone know if there is any effect on the warranty? Also how good does it sound with the 4 inch exhaust because my 02 was straight piped but it has 3 inch exhaust and a manual trans. I have an auto with 4 inch now. Any info would help. Thanks in advance.
I have an 06 ctd and just recently took the stock muf. off and replaced it with an Aero. I find I have lost some low end get up. As far as the stright pipe, my buddy did it and his truck is fine. A little noisey, but fine. Warranty is still good.
MJH, whats happend is your top end has gone up while your bottom end has dropped... stomp on it and you should be able to see the difference on the top end. I've had the same experience with 3 trucks now.
if you go to a cold air intake setup, it may get worse for you on the bottom end, the top end will scream. I just added an aero in between the turbo & the 30" magnaflow and it brought back some low end torque that was lost. the down side is that my top end has dropped some to effectively doing the opposite of what yours did.
so what you guys need to decide is what do you want out of your truck? top end or low end. want low end, go conservative on the exhaust, open it up too much and you'll loose your low end, a better mod would be to do the intake side and then do a conservative exhaust setup. that way you get the best of both worlds.

I have a 06 with a 6 speed. I took the muffler off and put a straight pipe on and I love it My wife said it's loud but I think it's just right makes it sound tough. I had some warranty work done to it and the dealership didn't say anything about the straight pipe.

I recently had my muffler removed & had a piece of exhaust pipe welded in place of it. I also kept the cat in place. I'm considering putting the muffler back in, or atleast replacing it with a flow-through type. It's a bit loud inside the cab and certain parts of the dash seem to have a vibrating buzz at certain RPMs which is annoying. It sounds great outside though.

Do you have any idea what the MPG gain would be with the ATS added to an other wise stock truck?

no, there are no moving parts or anything on this intake that would cause a warranty issue.
