Is that a wet air filter, if so it is normal to have a little oil and dirt on the fins. Just the nature of the beast with performance filters.

yeah it's an intake baffle, I never removed mine, I just sapped in an AFE stage 2 setup. IIRC reading about it, you just cut them out.

This is an FYI and not to scare you. If you don’t recharge the K&N type of filters properly they can and will let dirt and sand get into your turbo. If that happens it’s not good for your turbo.

they are easy to take care of... I have 170~180k miles on them and never had an issue. (non-turbo'd motors though). I would check the inside of the tube every once in a while to see if any dirt was getting past it and never had an issue.

one thing though with the CTD motor, it will draw alot more air thru than what a NA motor would draw. So with that said... get an AFE

I agree that on a gas engine you can get by with this type of filter with little worry. One rason I bring this up when I see people want to buy K&N type air filter is I have seen a few that have let some dust in to the tube and down near the turbo. If I had not been shown that dust can get through I would not of believed it my self. Some people don't recharge the filters properly but think they did so and stuff gets through. I feel if they have more information for them to read the better they can make an informed purchase. That and we all know a turbo is not a cheap thing to buy.

Have a great day
