WHile searching for more info on temp probes for auto tranny's I found this chart and thought I would share it with you.
It has made me decide to keep up my search for a good temp gauge for the tranny.

that is true, the cooler you can keep the fluid the better it will lubricate the gears and the better holding pressure it will be able to generate for the clutches.

 

Guess it's a good thing we have tranny coolers on our trucks. In cars they rely on the radiator to cool the fluid temps down! After seeing your chart no wonder cars have so many trannys fail in the summer when they over heat. That alone is a good reason to run a good high quality Syn fluid in your trans.

 

yeah I agree, and having the temp guage helps keep an eye on things. Mines is totally pretty sitting there in the dash... never moves an inch, might help if I run the wire to the sender [&:] couple of other things... i wonder what the effect of having the inline filter has on tranny life, and in addition the added fluid that goes with the +4 quart pan I have.

 

the added fluid will lower temps, and the inline filter will help the internal filter live longer.

 

So what's the current school of thought reguarding changing your tranny fluid. I was brought up to let it be and never change it.

 

[sm=huh.gif][sm=nono.gif] service, service, service... knowing you your probably joking... the best way to get the most out of your tranny is to stay on top of the servicing.

 

I kinda was and I kinda wasn't.

I WAS serious about what my Grandfather had told me and he meant it. I HAVE changed my tranny fluid a couple of times, but I've always wondered if I was doing the right thing, or if I should have listened to my Grandfather.

 

Since I installed my +3 quart trans pan and temp guage (in the side of the pan) Mine hasnt gone over 150 degrees, I would have to say it was money well spent. I think I may run a second onein the line just to see what kind of differances there are in temps.
