RE: Well the 'Ride' didnt help...
I feel the same as you about Chevy. Only owned one GMC and several Fords & many Dodge, Plymouth products. When I worked on cars years ago I never did like working on chevys electronic ignitions. I thought they were *** backwards from Ford or Dodge. The same with there spark plugs and the wide a gap they had. This was back in the days before they had pre gapped spark plugs.

some of their motors... ok maybe just 1.. the inline 6 they put in their base trucks years back seemed to last the longest. one co-worker mentioned he had 350k on a block from new and it was still going strong when he sold it. the person who bought it ran into him and mentioned it was over 400k. all on that same I6 block. 4.9L IIRC.

The 4.9 is one hell of an engine.
As long as your co-worker gets a 7.3 he won't be dissapointed. A guy that comes into work wanted us to get a rebuilder truck for him, he had been a Ford fan since he started driving. I tried and tried to get him to buy a Dodge, I even did like Steve did and took him for a drive in my uncles 2005 Dodge 3500 but to no avail. He had us buy a 2005 Ford with the 6.0 diesel and IMO that thing is a turd. It has no power and it feels like it can't even get out of its own way until about 3000 rpm. Last I heard it is currently for sale.......
Anyways like I said if he sticks with the 7.3 Powerstroke I think he will be happy. I put alot of miles on my ex-girlfriends parents 1997 F-250 with the 7.3 and a big 5th wheel camper, it handles that like its not even there. Anyone from this area knows how the hills in Missouri around Tablerock are and it got through them just fine. All that said I woulf still have chosen a Cummins, it does with 6 cylinders what others can't with 8.

Yes the I-6 was and is a very good long running engine, had one in my 1985 1/2 ton. The 302 is also a good engine. I put a reman in my 1987 1/2 ton extra cab long bed and at just over 5500 Lbs I could get 18 MPG on the hwy empty and it had an auto in it. I have a friend and all they own is Fords at the towing company they own. Thay had and I saw an old I-6 with almost no oil presser ( it would not show any presser on any guage you hooked to it at idel ) keep on a working around the wrecking yard for over 2 years.

Yea i had one of those trucks. 1993 Ford F150 with the 300 I6 and a 5 speed overdrive tranny. was a xlt model alll the chrome from factory. Great truck. loved it more than anything. Then i got t boned by a guy driving to fast in the rain. hit me right behind the cab in between cab and bed. Had to scrap her frame was bent and body was really messed up. I gotta say in wat was it 97? that ford changed the body style. They just lost the edge. I always liked ford back in the day and still do like the old school ford pickups. but for anything modern one they are ugly two they aren't reliabel. That's why i went to dodge. reliable, strong, good looking, can't lose witht aht combo
