Default Hard start ~

My '99 R3500 began to get balky when starting a couple of months ago. Instead of the usual "turn the key and it starts" it has become progressively worse, now taking up to ten seconds before it lights. Has an EZComp installed. 150K miles. Comments please.

check your fuel pump... if it's died it can take out your lift pump pretty quick.

If there is no smoke, check your lift pump should be about 10psi. If there is smoke, as mayfair suggested, check the grid heater.

Had the same problem on the 2006 Ram 2500 CTD, Took it to the dealer, they said there was a flash upgrade for the computer. It took 5 minutes and havent had a problem since. Also gained 3mpg.
