Default Transmision pumps fluid in N and not P ?

I have heard that the new automatic transmisions on the 06 and 07 only pump fluid through the transmision cooler while in Nutal or in drive or revers but it wont pump fluit through the cooler if it is in Park. Is this true. If it is doesnt it seam like a major design flaw if somone pulls a big hill and then stops at a rest stop at the top to cool it down by putting her i park and letting her run?

Any thoughts or is this untrue?

That's an interresting idea, but I doubt that is the case.

It sounds like someone thinks that the fluid is being transferred at the same speed as the RPM. Sounds kinda silly to me, but don't go by what I think, I don't know JACK !!

I have a 95' with the 47RH....I know they DO NOT pump in park. There is a mod that will allow fluid to circulate in park, and I believe that it's done on the valve body. Something like drilling 1 or 2 holes, and a hydraulic check valve.

You can all ATS Diesel. They automatically do that on all their performance valve bodies. They would most definitely know the answer to your question.

Good luck.

I've heard of this. I would consider this "normal" (for Chrysler transmissions at least), but modifying it to pump in park would probably be a very good idea.

I've been told the new 68RE 6 speed will be able to pump fluid in Park! [sm=happy046.gif][sm=happybounce.gif]

I wonder if somehow this is related to their instructions for towing the things four wheels down...they are pretty adamant not to put it into PARK after you put the xfer case in neutral if the motor is still running - you have to shut it off first and then put it in PARK. I always wondered why - and if you don't wait for everything to stop spinning after shut off (with xfer case in neutral) before putting it in PARK, you hear some pretty scary grinding noises. Maybe one of the experts can shed some light on this?
