Default Mmmmm - Block Heater is GOoooood!

Woooo Whooo!

Picked up a heater cord on e-bay for $19. Used it last night and went out this morning (36* on the temp) and didn't get a wait light, had heat right away and the temp gauge was already in the normal zone. The grid heater only cycled about 3 - 4 times, then nothing.

Used a heavy duty ($9) mechanical timer, so it turned on 2 hours before I normally leave the house.

Sounded much better than when I didn't have it plugged in, and that is down here in Alabama.

Between that and the high idle, the truck is nice and warm in the morn. Now all I need is the remote start and I'll be happy.

Cut up 2 truck loads of Red Oak this weekend; couldn't even notice that in the back. Got a nice little stash of holiday fire. Tornado that touched down here last week knocked down a bunch of big, old Oaks, so I'll be cuttin' up some good stuff for a few weeks. Splittin's fun; haven't needed to do it since I was back in upstate NY.

Anyways, just thought I'd drop that for anyone that was thinking of getting that heater cord.

Rich

I'm originally from right near Albany.

Grew up between there and Lake Champlain.

Also was stationed up in Watertown for about 5 years.

I drive through Binghamton whenever I go home.

Question for ya....

Does the sun EVER FRIGGIN' shine in that city?

Everytime I drive through, it's either cloudly, raining, or snowing.

There is a bridge not to far down 88; heading toward Albany. It was snowing like mad (I mean white out mad) and I had to stop and, uhhh, releave myself. A friggin plow truck came over the bridge. I thought I got hit by an avalanche. Yeah, that truly sucked. Wife was laughing her **** off. I looked like the friggin abominal snowman when I got back in the truck.

lol, not thats funny...

edit: oops, ment to ask, how will the block heater work with the remote start? we dont get that cold here (high 20's,low 30's) and I'll probably never need it but it'd be nice to know. my truck has the cord already installed.

It starts right up, even if it's plugged in. It's on a completely different electrical circuit and isn't monitored by the vehicle at all.

It certainly doesn't get cold down here in AL, but I haven't had a wait light since plugging the truck in and it definitely starts up smoother. I have it on the mechanical timer, set for 2 hours before I leave, and when I turn the key before starting it's already right at the bottom of the normal zone.
