That sucks...... I have had my truck plugged in for days at a time. Never bother to think about any damage. Oh well, she's tough.

Adios

It doesn't let the WTS light go out as fast as it does in 70 degree weather? No sugar.......

Even in the worst sub zero temps my light always goes off quickly with the truck plugged in.
REALLY??

My wait to start light DOES go off faster in warmer weather ( as expected ) but why does yours go off quickly in colder weather as well?

Next question ...

Since plugging my truck in doesn't do anything to the temp gauge or anything like that, how do I know that it's even working?

I would take a temp gun to the block next to where the heater element is.

It's been 0-15 degrees(last couple of days) and the WTS is only on for a 5 seconds then goes off and starts right up.

That's what I don't get.

I thought the wait to start thing was somehow controlled by heating the air intake with some sort of intake heater. How does heating the block heat the incomming air?

Mayfair,

You gotta do something with the antique car under the cover......it's sinking into the ground and the cover has moss growing on it. What's under there anyway?

Sorry for the thread theft!

the block heater has nothing to do with the intake heater. . .two seperate deals. besides the intake heater is like a toaster on steroids, the block heater is like one of them old coiled electric coffee mug water heaters.

the best way to tell if it is working is before you start the truck and after is has been pluged in for a while is to put your hand on the block. . .if she's warm then you know it's working.

I was afraid someone was going to ask about that.

I'm embarrassed to admit that it's a neglected 1963 Chevy II. I've had it since the early 80's and at one time was a 2nd place show car. It used to have a 194 6 banger in it, but now it has a 350. I'm embarrassed because it's been sitting like that for about 15 or so years. It kills me to see it that way, but time and money keep it that way. I'd LOVE to finish it, but right now I just can't swing it. My friends have REALLY been on me about it though and it IS starting to have an impact, but I don't want to start it until I can do it right. I'm afraid that by then it'll be totally buried and rotted away.

Sucks ...

OK, so I was correct about the intake heater thing, but I still don't understand how some of these guy's are saying that after having their trucks plugged in the wait to start light goes off immediately. What am I missing?
