Default Towing

well i was wondering, what are the uses for the different kinds of towing hitches? Ball, Pintle Hook, Pintle and Ball Combination, Goose Neck, 5th Wheel, any i missed?

5th Wheel- Used for towing the heaviest loads
Goose Neck- Used for towing very Heavy Loads
Reciever Ball- the most common used for towing light to heavy loads
Pintle Hook-???????
Pintle and Ball Combination- ????? can you use this with a reg ball trailer?

Default RE: Towing

i have an adjustable pintle/ball combo I use when towing a regular trailer.
It salides into the receiver on the truck.
Four removeable bolts on the side allow it to be adjusted for a multitude of trailer heights.
The pintel is used more for military type trailers. Some construction trailers have this setup also.
Receiver Ball can be either 1 7/16, 2" or 2 5/16.
Usually the latter works better with sway bars.
Hope this helps.

Pintle hooks are used on log trucks and dump trucks, but they are a different size.

why arent Pintle hooks used on passenger tow rigs?
what is (if any) the reason for using pintle/ball combo over just Receiver Ball? is it better, and why?
