the bottle says it's ok for the crankcase on the diesel but I dont know of anyone who has tried it there. I've used it in gasser crankcases but thats it... if you give it a shot, let us know how it goes.

are you going to be tracking any mileage changes? We've been using it in the cranks for our gassers for a while and helped for the most part... some gains were bigger than others in terms of mpg increases.

The only thing I would be very hesitant about with putting it in the crankcase compared to the fuel is this....

There is a difference between cooking and baking. When you're cooking, you can add things here, skimp things there to suit your taste and it will usually come out okay. But, when you're say, making a cake, if you screw with the ingredients bad things can happen, as it's more like a chemistry.

It's the same with with additives. It may be okay to burn, but I don't know if I want anything that thin between the metal parts in my engine. Oils properties are very tight and adding anything in there can really screw up the balance. Again, kinda like changing ingedients in a cake.

Just my opinion on oil additives.

yea i check my milage every fillup and have roughly the same driving patterns every time... but i will let youknow if milage has gone up any or even gone down.... doubt it tho... as with steve ive been useing MMO in crankcases in gassers a long time. never any ill effects i also use it in my harley..so i dont think the mmo will mess up anything in the oil..

Biggest concern, I think, would be if something did get screwed up.

Just say that something did get toasted because of a lube issue. If it was just the regular oil, it's one of two things; a - mechanical failure or blockage or b - oil failure. Once you add anything to the oil, you've just released the oil manufacturer from any responsibility. Plus, you've alo released the engine / vehicle manufacturer becuase you're put in a product that is not "recommended" by them.

Now, maybe you could get the MMO producer to cover it. Ahhhhhhhhhh, not a process I want to try.

With the older oils of years ago, I could see it being beneficial. But with how good oils are now, especially synthetics, I just don't see the need for it.

I don't know......I guess I would have to see some very compelling evidence that it actually does real good and doesn't cause any harm.

So, you would put it on top of the cake before eating it? But NOT inside?!

Running it in the fuel, to me, is one thing. We all know that diesel fuel is generally a pretty dirt fuel. It's actual cetane, lubricity, and water content can, at times, be questionable. The new fuels DO NOT have the same levels of lubrication as the older high sulfur fuels. I can see adding MMO to the fuel, simply for the sake of lubricating the injector pump, injectors and valves. Is it necessary? No. Does it "seem" to quiet things down? Yes, but so does sawdust in your differential, until it lets go.

Modern oils are completely different. Most of us here change our own oil and use oil that is bottled, not bulk. Those oils are produced fairly strictly, if you use quality fluids. By adding things to them, you are changing the chemical make up and changing how the ingredients in those oils react with each other. Throw the balace off and you may not get the desired or intended effect.

That's all I'm getting at. If you want to use it, so be it, I'd would just be cautious before using something that may or may not work as you want it.

Here, try this. Drain all the oil out of your truck, the refill it with nothing but MMO. What do you think the results would be? If that doesn't work well, why would you want to use it in place of a qt of oil? [sm=confused06.gif]

I've seen enough demonstrations on products like Lucas Oil Stabilizer and other so called treatments that I'm more than skeptical about adding them to my stuff.

well, already having amsoil in the pan I dont think I'll be giving it a shot...

the thing that sold me on it was in my 2000 ram 5.9 motor (gas) I always had lifter tick regardless of any oil i used. Added just 12~14 oz of MMO and it was gone within seconds of the next startup. Suggested my daughter use 1 quart in her pan on her next oil change and she watched her mileage go from a consistant 23~25 mpg to 29~31 mpg. same driving habits& routes, the only difference was the additive.
