Lots of white smoke and rough idle w/ MMO
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I have a rough idle w/ plenty of white smoke when i start up in the morning. If find if does it a lot more when i use Drew's brew. If i use PSD alone, it is not as bad. Any help would be great.
hmmmm. . .this would be a long shot but. . .white smoke generaly means your not getting enough fuel for diesels. that bully dog does alot of pressure on the higher settings. Id be wondering if your pressure relief valve has popped. . .have you noticed decreased performance lately???

If your truck is under warranty, strip it down and see if the problem persists. if so bring it to dodge and let them fix it. the fuel heater runs off a temp sensor mounted on the fuel filter assembly (at least thats how it is on the '05), the colder the fuel, the harder the heater turns on. once fuel temp is above 75 it shuts off. I only mention this is in the shop manual it mentions that the heater is there to prevent the fuel from waxing which can cause blue or white fog like smoke on startup.

I say it since the pop off valve would allow the pressure generated by the CP3 to bleed out of the rail, the lower pressure would also mean less fuel going into the cylinders.

yeah but he only has the problem in the mornings on startup... if the valve was popped, it'd have problems all the time wouldnt it? how does the excess get returned back to the tank? IIRC I only saw to lines coming to/from the tank area (from looking underneath) both of which went to the fuel filter assembly.
once the engine warms up you wouldnt have white smoke, I'll need to trace the lines and see where they do go, I'm unsure if they do go directly to the tank, or if it 'T's at a fuel return from the filter or the CP3.
hummm, interesting. I'm planning on adding a fuel cooler & fan in between the tank & filter assembly. the idea being to draw out as much heat as possible out of the fuel in the hot months. I'm thinking the fuel heater assembly will help keep the fuel at the ideal temp when combined with the cooler. I'm 100% positive the fuel in the tank gets way too hot during the summer and would benifit from a cooler. the one question to ask here is when the fuel is returned back to the tank, how much heat is being added if any?
