Default Normal Rust?

I was under my truck tonight, connecting the heater cord and started noticing rust that seems a bit abnormal to me. This truck has 1500 miles on it, although it was on the dealers lot >6 months (some of which time was a field lot) Take a look and let me know if its normal.

I feel better about it knowing that others trucks are the same, however I can't understand why it wasn't painted / treated so as not to rust. I realize no one else will see it, the problem is, I can't unsee it!

Unpainted ferrous material (steel and iron) rusts. It is normal, and on every vehicle out there. You can take your time and clean it then paint it your self, if it really bothers you. Just dont get paint on the rubber seals on ball and u joints, and if you do the drive shafts make sure you paint evenly, otherwise you could cause it to get out of balance.

I've got the same symptoms. I thought about trying to clean it up and paint it, but just figure that it is going to get that way sooner or later. I was a little disturbed at first, but not anymore.

The one I got originally came from Michigan or somewhere where the salt in the air could have easily been the cause. Now in the desert it hasn't gotten any worse.

Pull your new truck tail lights and look for rust.

I took my truck to Krown in Cornwall Canada .. The guy shooting the truck with the "oil" showed me the inside of my new truck's rear inner fender wells (the rear lights were taken out to spray inside) Yep, rust.

I was shocked. 2 months old driven in the rain 3 x and rust inside the fenders back near the tail lights. Truck never saw a winter or salt. I am very glad I drove to Canada to get this done before the first winter.

I will get the truck shot at Krown every year and hope it helps keep the truck from self destructing. Salt is the part I hate the most about winter.
