heading down to Fresno again in the next week or two and I'm thinking I can dothe mileage test again... I would expect high 19's if everything holds the same as the past...

my goal has always been to find the best mileage/performance setup. the performance side of things is easy with the TST in there, but the mileage is a bit trickier to get.
I have come to 1 conclusion after swapping intake setups a couple of times now (afe pg7 & stock) is that the turbo spool up is much slower with the stock box, peak boost is limited by the stock box. I think these 2 things help the mileage the most. Oh, and there is more low end torque too with the stock box... goes with thelow airflow vshigh air flow with the performance filter. after installing the ATS & aero I'll bet i'll be in the 17's (average) easy with the stock box. If it ends up that way, I may be looking for a different CAI kit.

Hey Mike, here's the original thread... to summarize i got an 18.7 mpg WITH the AFE pg7 filter in place. this was a test I ran heading down to Sanger, just outside of Fresno from Sacramento... all hiway, no stops, 68~70 mph. the point was to see what my true hiway mileage was. A previous mpg record for my truckwith the big tires on was 17.5 on a trip up to Canada using the stock airbox. differences between that trip and current setup are the addition of the ATS intake & aero turbine 4040 in front of my magnaflow.

So it sounds like I should just keep my stock air box, because I really would not want to loose low end. What are your expericences with the ATS ARC intake? I wonder if I installed the ARC intake, I would also loose low end with it as well.
I really don't do a lot of High RPM, high speed driving in my CTD. But I would like to compliment my Edge Juice/Att on stage 1.

RE: Put stock airbox back on...
MrSlug... the ATS intake boosted low end above 1400~1500 from what I could tell (butt dyno) that's why I recommend it. If your not looking to loose low end, consider a cool blue tube to replace the stock tube down to the turbo & a drop in filter or some box that is similar to the stock setup but flows better. If you go too big, you'll loose low end, I'm considering swapping to the std AFE stage 2 intake setup w/o the pg7 filter (smaller filter).

Are you going to run the tripone way with the K&N, and the other with the stock air filter?
GREAT test !! Thanks for doing it !!

one thing I can say is it drives way different with the stock box on.... there is more low end to the point where I have to let off sometimes to maintain speeds. top end is now affected... no longer screams up top like it did with the afe...

dont put the stock air box back on.the stock air box restricts air flow. the proformance air filter lets airpass through quicker, you'll gain power not lose it. Who cares about 1 mpg STOCKS NO FUN
