Default 6 speed and load capacity

Hi I was on this forum 5 years ago, and decided I needed to come back. I have had problems with my 2001 Ram diesel and the 6 speed trans. I was on my way to AZ last Feb towing a 25 ft trailer, when the transmission started acting up. I parked it in a DNR dry camp in Quartsite AZ and looked for a dealer. Found one in Yuma. Got the truck down there and was told there were no transmissions available from Dodge They said there was 6 on BO with no ship date. My choice was a rebuilt one from Idaho or wait who knows how long for a replacement from Dodge. Ok so I go for the rebuild. A week later the truck is still in Yuma and my wife and trailer is in Quartsite 8o miles away with a dead battery in the trailer. So, had to buy a generator. Rent a car. The bill for the truck was 8800.00. The gen was 1000.00 and 400.00 for the car. I have since been told that I was ripped off by the dealer. Oh and the trans had 42000 miles on it but of course the warrenty had run out.
Can anyone tell me if this is a normal charge for a rebuilt and do I have any recourse with Dodge. Oh and now the trans keeps falling out of third and fifth gears. I have to hold it untill the clutch is released Thanks Tom

I've heard that they don't make the NV5600's any more and your only choice is to go with a rebuild.

Tom, I hate to say it but you got raked over the coals.[:'(]

New Venture Gear who made the NV5600 went out of buisness back in 05 when DC dropped them as their supplier of manual transmissions and transfers back then. New Process bought all the machinery and patents NV held and as of now has no plans on makeing spare parts for the NV5600. obtaining a newly rebuilt NV5600 is not cheap. . .but no where near as expensive as what you got. I just checked out http://www.atsdiesel.com/and they have NV5600's for a bit over 5K with a 3K core charge.

if the rebuilt trans you got is not working right it is on the dealer to fix it, but from what you said the rebuilt tranny has 42K on it??????? this is VERY dishonest and I would look at persuiting these guys for getting you a bad transmission.

Thanks for the info guys. The sad part was it was not the rebuilt that had 42000 miles on it when it went out, it was the original. The rebuilt that is still in it just keeps falling out of 3rd and 5th gear. I am in WA and the dealer that did the repair is Yuma AZ. What to do What to do

I just found 3 rebuilt ones on Ebay for less than $3K all had warranties and were beeing sold by the rebuilders. One of the sellers is in AZ. $250 shipping charge. Even with the labor, it should not cost anywhere close to $8K.
