speedo recalibrate
I bought some 295/70R/17's for my '06 and had the Stealership recalibrate my computer also. I watched the tech do it. He showed methat the closest tire size he had in his programmer was the 285/70R/17. I think that my spedo is now running about 1.7% slow which is fine with me because the recalibrating was for free. When my speedo says 60mph I'm actually going 61mph
OK cimminalonggive me some education. Is the STARscan tool something different then they normally use. If it is I will go back and try this with them. I found my tires make make 594 revs per mile as opposed to the 658 revs per mile the old ones did. I'm trying toget this figured out.Would rather spendmy $$$ onparts other than a superchip.

Think about it. If you can do it with a $100 scan tool that you buy at AutoZone, don't you think the dealership can do it with that monster STARscan they have.
The problem is the guy doesn't know how to use the tool. It's like the high idle feature, half of them look at you like a crack addict when you ask to have it enabled.
They know where the basic functions are, but not the advanced feature. The stock tire sizes are already preprogrammed. To change it to a different tire size, all he needs is the revs per mile and punches it in and re-flashes it.
You can do this with almost any handheld programmer, not just the Superchips, I had the Superchips for my last truck and you could adjust it real easy, just push up or down on the arrows.

Just got back from the dealer. I spoke with the Service Manager and informed him that I wanted to recalibrate my speedo. After a short discussion, he said they could adjust speedo's if the tires size went up to 285 but anything after that he would not do because of liability and did not want to assume any. So, I left and went back 20 minutes later. I walked around to the service bay area and asked one of the mechanics who the tranny guy was. I then spoke with the tranny guy and he said that if I knew the number of tire revs for my tires it could be done through the STARscan. I told him I already had that info, my tires are 601 revs/mile @45-mph (per BFG website). I then said your service manager will not do it, cause I already asked. The tranny guy then said, it really wasno big deal and easy to do. I asked him if there was a day the service manager is off and I would come in then. He said that guy is here everyday. The tranny guy suggested i try another dealership. So, on the way home I stopped at Autozone and Kragen. Both places had the OBD II scanner ($99 one). I asked the tech at Kragen if the unit would recalibrate myspeedo. He did not know, so I called the tech supportnumber on the back. The tech support guy said that unit would nothelp me, he said it only reads codes.
So I am back to square 1. I guess I will call around to some other dealers.

so it appears i just have people at the dealerships here who don't know what the hell they are talking about. lucky me. i'll keep on them i guess and see if i can get them to figure it out.

I know I'm not crazy and Ive actualy heald one in the store that not only told you the trouble codes, but also adjusted tire size, but for some odd reason I'm haveing a little trouble finding one. . .give me a bit and I'll have you a direct link.
I just bought the Superlift Speed Calibrator for mine. I put 35's on my truck. The calibrator works great. In the summer when I put the stock tires back on, I just flip a switch and it calibrates back to stock. Really nice set-up.
