Changing the gear ratio in the computer won't change the speedo. The speed is read off of the tone ring in teh rear end. It's attached to the ring gear. The
According to the 2006 Dodge Service Manual, the speed sensor is located in the overdrive gear case, which is right behind the transmission. So if the speed sensor is there, how is it reading "the tone ring in the rear end"?
I'll pull it up when I get to work. I'll show you what you're looking at.

Here ya go. This should show you what I'm talking about. Thanks Watermelon for the pic:

I couldn't load a better pic from work. Stupid gov computers....

These trucks don't read the speed from the tranny or the t-case. If you want to see for yourself, there is a plug on top of your rear diff that has the speed sensor. Disconnect that and you will have no speedo reading. Also, your tranny will shift all over the place, as it has no idea what's going on. That's why if you ever loose your speedometer, check the connection on top of the diff. It may jsut be loose or gummed up.

I went through all this with multiple dealers about six months ago, and what they realized was that they can reprogram the tire sizes via revolutions on '05's and earlier, but at that time the newer '06's which have a totally different computer than the earlier years could NOT be reprogrammed beyond the largest size they can choose from. I actually sat down with the tech and the Starscan and can confirm myself that you could NOT change the size beyond what the choices were in scan tool program. BUT - that was six months ago and I'd be real surprized if there isn't NOW the ability to make more significant changes - either with more tire size choices, or with rev's as per previous years.
So has anyone out there had their '06 programmed to a tire size (or rev's)equivalent to 35's by a dealer using the scan tool? If so, let the rest of us schmucks know so we can tell our dealers how to do it. (Thanks)
