Default HELP! My Cummins wont start!

Ok guys, I'm cruising down the interstate at 80 MPH and the truck just falls on its face. Completely dies...I pull off the road and turn the key off. I try to start it....fires up and runs for a few seconds then dies again. It does this a few more times. I get out and un-plug the Edge and un-hook my batteries to reset the computer.

Then hop back in the truck and fire it up...runs for a while longer and then dies. Fire up again...runs for a while longer than the last time, then dies. I fire it up again and it keeps running. I drive it another 2 or 3 miles to O'Reillys and grab a fuel filter. I killed the truck when I parked at O'Reillys...it started up just fine and I drove it for about 2 miles and then it did the same thing again. My buddy tows me to his house and we throw in the fuel filter...but like I guessed...it did no good. Truck wont even fire over now...

Any ideas? I dont hear the pump running that fills up the canister where the fuel filter is. Is it the injection pump or the lift pump?

It never threw the check engine light but its throwing a few codes:
P 0148
P 0191

There's another code it threw but I dont remember it. I'm taking it to the dealership in the morning to hook it up to the diagonistics machine.

Any input would be great!!!

I'm no expert but, these are the codes you're getting. I'd say you have a bad lift pump or bad sensor.

you're having a fueling issue.

p0191 is Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor CKT Range/Perf

p0148 isFuel Delivery Malfunction

Yeah, I hope its just a sensor. Truck is still under warranty but I dont wanna be w/out my truck over the holiday.

I'm thinking I'm not going to put the Edge back on the truck....anyone have any thoughts on this?

Any other input would be great...

Thanks Triton!!

That's what I had on Saturday before Christmas. Went out to finish some last minute shopping, started the truck, CEL came on, running like crap, no power on acceleration. Had to nurse it to the dealer and got the same thing, low fuel pressure. They had the damn thing until yesterday.

lift pump is dead. . .you can have the dealer install a new one, but it will be in the tank.

Well fellas, turns out it was the fuel pump or lift pump whatever you wanna call it. Good ol' Cummins warranty covered everything Black betty lives again!

Anyone have any thoughts on the Edge possibly having a hand in burning up the pump?

Kinda worried to hook it back up....any input would be great...

the edge shouldn't affect lift pump operation.

I thought the '04.5 & up trucks had the pump in the tank already.

Yes, the pump was in the tank. So nobody thinks the Edge would affect pump operation so it theoritically should be safe to hook it back up?

Thanks for the input....glad to have 'er back up and running!

The Carter pumps they use in the tank are a piece of crap. Your edge had nothing to do with it going out.
