so on the highway this am a Power Stroke Diesel (Piece of Shi* Diesel) pulled up next to me. appeared to be stock ...although i think he had an exhaust. so what hasta happen? me with my very large ego puts my foot to the floor and so did he. we were neck and neck and then next think i know he starts pullin on me and passes me. he didnt blow by me but i was so let down that my cummins was beat by his PS. he was blowin a little coal and his turbo deffinately louder than mine (i heard his over mine). so thats a big itch under my skin that needs to be scratched and it wont go away untill i do some mods. rokktech and aero are on the top of the list. what else do i need to beat a PS????? keep in mind my budget is VERY low. i also dont want to sacrifice too much MPG's. i am sooo disappointed/ashamed to say a PS beat me and my cummins...im sure anyone else would feel the same way

First rememberyou cannot tell what the Ford owner has done to his truck. If he was willing to race you, then I would bet he was chipped (since he also had an aftermarket exhaust as you mentioned). Also, the stock ford turbos do seem to be louder than the CTDs.

How low is your budget?

Are you willing to do mods that can void your warrenty?

Whatare your power expectations?

well im 19 going to college and working as much as possible. i have a girlfriend, truck payment, insurance payment, and dirtbike payment that all need to be payed at the end of the month. after those deductions i have about $100-300 extra per month.

i bought my truck from a private guy...so i have no warrenty so im not worried about it. but i also dont wanna ruin anything. i know all mods put breaking things at risk but basically i dont wanna go nuts and blow the head off the truck.

im lookin to get a little "snappier" a little more get up and go. im very pleased with what it has now for being a diesel but im lookin for a little more. and a little more so it will smoke the tires whenever i want...not when it wants. im also loooking to either save fuel or keep gettin the same mileage im currently gettin. i dont wanna lose alot of mileage

Put on an exhaust would be the first thing I do. Depending on what year you have just get a muffler deletion pipe and run straight exhaust if you like it loud like I do. I have a 2001 QC 2500 I went out and got 4" straight pipe and a new over the axle pipe 1st to run it straight back, cutting off from the down pipe back 1st, cost about $130. Then when I could afford more I got the 4" down pipe from the turbo, cost about $100. If you have a later model go to geno's garage and just order a mufler deletion pipe since it already is 4". The hypertech programmer was a great install too with 50 extra ponies and 120 extra ft lbs, $250. You can keep it in stage 1 to get a little extra ummph with a better mpg or set it in stage 3 to get all the extra power. All it takes is 5 minutes to program from stage to stage unless you get a power module or different programmer. With the Hypertech though you can stack extra modules on from edge or bully dog when you can fork out about 500 bones, plus you might then add a boost guage and pyrometer.With just this I can pull away from my step-brother's PS that has an edge, hypertech, stacks, gears, and a few other small mods.

right now for you, I wouldnt worry about trying to mod the truck. in all honesty, hit thebooks and save up the dough. when you graduate and land that nice job starting off, then mod it. If I didnt have the house payment I have you would see my truck at tractor pulls, but sometimes you need to check yourpriorities and dont go into debt

I'm not trying to knock you, I'm just trying to pass on a little life lesson that I was able to catch while I was in college and trying to make my Nissan p/u the baddest **** on campus

 

thanks everyone. especially drew. i always appreciate and absorb life lessons because you dont get life lessons from another 19 yr old, you get them from already experienced people who know. ...i go to a community college (a degree is a degree) and i have the baddest truck in the parking lot. its the only cummins there. ya there ricers with their coffee can exhaust but nuttin close to a cummins. theres a duramax, the kid is in one of my classes, we go back and forth breakin *****. but my cummins is still badder

maybe ill just save and slap on the rokk tech and the aero (after i decide which aero to get and what size...help with that would be taken in too) and then ill just save save saveeee till i can twin turbo and everything in between ) dont we all wish

I agree with Drew... it's early in life, spend the bux on your education and focus on making the bigger bucks when you get out... whenyour earning some extra then start looking into the mods... what i'd suggest thoughis tolook for the mods that are free or very cheep...
