I am a bit confused. I can program the key from the link you gave me just like it tells me in the manual. If i get the remote start I will get the viper so that key without the remote on it will make it easier.

I dont remember the exact steps but its something like this, insert original key and turn it off and on x amount of times, insert duplicate original key then turn it a few times, insert duplicate key (one off ebay) then I think it chimes or something like that to show the key is now programmed to the truck. I am not sure if you need both original keys but I am pretty sure you do, I guess that way if someone gets one of your keys they cant go making copies that work without a second.

You have to have 2 working keys to program a 3rd key. There is also a system limit of 8 keys max, so you could have theoretically 8 keys total. You need the 2 working keys to get the system into the program mode so that you can program the new key.

You can start your truck with a key that does not have the transponder chip but it will shut down in 2 seconds. After the 3rd try with an incorrect key, the PCM will lock you out. To reset the lockout you have to have a working key and have the ignition on, engine off, for 60 minutes....

The owners manual has a section on programming a new key, something the dealer tried to tell me "only they could do". Right......

I purchased a spare key from a lock smith for $30 dollars and programmed it myself which was very straight forward, if you follow the manuals instructions. I can also tell you that you do need two functioning, programed keys to do a new key and you can only program a maximum of eight. This was for a 2005 Ram 3500 Laramie.
