Default Exhaust advice

Hello everyone. I'm new with a couple of questions. I recently bought my first dodge ram, an 06 quad 4x4 laramie, with the diesel. I love it. I also bought the s&b cold air intake and the rbp high performance additive. My question is on the exhaust: I'm considering going to a 5 inch full cat back aluminized exhaust. With my stock setup, will it make a difference gas milage wise and performance wise to upgrade. If so, will an aluminized exhaust hold up to the salt water, or in general. Also I've read about the noise from the upgraded exhaust and the aero exhaust. I just need any advice before I invest $500 in a new exhaust. Thanks.

welcome to DF...

Yeah the 5" sure will make a difference in your mileage, pretty big actually, it'll drop. your everyday driving low end torque will drop off significantly causing a drop in mileage... I'd suggest going with a lost cat, replace it with a 4040 aero turbine & either straightpipe the stock muffler or put the aero there and leave the cat. (really recommend ditching the cat though...)

Dont do the aluminized if your around salt water or if your in an area that snows. The salt from the road will shorten the life fo your exhaust. Ive got 5" magna flow exhaust that has been straight piped. The couple extra hundred bucks more will be worth it in the end. I got talk out of the alum because i do snow removal and wouldnt get much life out of it.
