Newbie Questions
Well i have found alot of good info on here but this is my first diesel and i have a few questions if anyone could help. I have a 2005 2500 quad cab all stock. Except a leaveling kit and 35's. What is a wastegate and what does it do? I see some people say the have it plugged? Also what does it mean to bomb your truck? I love the truck gave up my 2004 Hemi for a lot more truck... Thanks in advance

A wastegate is what regulates the turbo from creating excessive boost pressures. Your turbo has 2 main parts. The turbine, which is driven by exhaust gases, and the compressor, which compresses incoming air to create boost. (pressurized air). The two parts share a common shaft. When the turbine spins, so doesn't the compressor.
For talks sake, say your wastegate was set at 30 psi. When the turbo spools up, and creates in excess of 30 lbs (that's 30lbs on the intake, or compressor side)......the wastegate opens, and relieves the amount of exhaust pressure being sent to the turbine. Less exhaust pressure means the turbine spins slower, thus reducing the amount of boost being created. When the boost pressure drops below 30, the wastegate closes and all the exhaust is routed back through the turbine.
The wastegatesimply opens and creates an "alternate route" for the exhaust gases to follow.
I had a video somewhere, let me look.
Good luck with your ride.
