Lubing the front drive U joint
I just spent almost 2 hours and a tube of grease trying to lube that stupid U joint at the rear of the front driveshaft!![sm=boosign.gif]
I tried with a flex hose on the grease gun, with a solid, with a bend in the 'needle', and a straight 'needle'. I now have a well lubed outside of the whole assembly but I'm not real sure that I got any inside. (is there a real secret to it?)
One day I would like to meet the idiot that thought this up!!!

i don't understand why everyone is having such difficulty with this. it's fairly simple. i used a grease gun with flex hose, attach the 18 gauge needle (bought at any parts store) to the hose, line up the fitting (it will be a straight shot, no need to bend the needle), insert the needle into the fitting IT WILL GO IN about a 1/4", hold the needle in place while pumping the gun, give it a few shots and your good to go. i did both mine and my dad's in less than 5 minutes.
let me know if you have any questions

I finally got mine to take grease, I had get the actual needle fitting and then I inserted the neddle by hand by itself and then I put the grease gun on the neddles fitting , not fun but done.
I tried with other types of fittings but no go. with the neddle I could feel it going in then just 4 pumps and done.

I had no problem greasing mine with the needle tip on the flex line, the hardest part was finding it. Can anyone tell me if this is a sealed joint and that you could blow out the seal if you pump too much grease in. I have only given it two shots maximum until I can confirm wheather or not this is a sealed joint.
Here is the gun and tool I used. Bought them at pep boys.
You need the gun that you can pump with 1 hand ($17.00) while holding the needle fitting ($5.00) against the tiny hole located at the access point. Thelith grease was $4.00 and flex hose was another $6.00. When I bought the needle adaptor, it was straight and I tried for 20 minutes but couldn't get the needle to line up with the hole because the x-member and u-joint prevented a straight-in shot. I then used my brakeline tube bender and put a 90 degree on the needle. It then aligned perfectly with the hole and I gave it about 5 pumps until I saw the grease oozzz out frombehind thejoint. NOTE...The access point is just a tiny hole in the joint. It does not "push in" and there is no valve or ball or anything that I can see that prevents the grease from going in. Just hold the tip of the needle against the hole with one hand and pump with the other until the grease oozzzes out from the back. Good luck.
