Default 4WD Question

Okso if yall havent heard it is freezing and raining in San Antonio, Tx. I've had to use the 4WD already but for short periods of time, while driving with my buds going out to eat. My question is that i have a 2wd/4LOCK/4LO, obviously I have not been using the 4LO but my bud was telling me that it isn't wise to use the 4LOCK for a long period of time. So what do I do? I have to drive later on tonight and there is sleet w/rain is it ok to use the 4WD or what? Or if someone could just elaborate on what 4LOCK is.

Thanks

Rudy

Well your buddy is half right. In perfectly dry conditions and regular rain (no ice or snow) driving in 4x4 can be hard on you differentials and axles. If you drive in 4x4 sometimes you'll notice a slight sorta jerky hopping when turning tight. that's because your in 4x4 and the tires are gripping and also trying to turn causes some bind and is a bit hard on the drivline. but if you are driving in snow and ice 4x4 isn't a bad option. Personally I rarely use 4x4 on the road. a better option is to just take your time and drive nice and slow. but if you are in the snow and ice don't worry about being in 4x4. the slickness of the road should allow enough slipping of tires to not cause damage. good luck and taker er ez don't be wrecking that truck

I am near houston, it is sleeting here now, was snowing earlier. The schools are closed tomorrow where we are and the surrounding areas. It hasnt been this cold here in a long time. It would be nice if it was a dry cold, not a wet windy cold. What he said about the 4x4. Just dont get yourself into anything that you cant get out of.
