Yeah, I just don't have it with me. When I get home I'll re-post the issue number.

You read the article? What did you think?

I haven't used any additives since reading the article and haven't noticed any difference in performance. I like all the information on the TDR site, but I also listen to what everyone here and on the DTR say. Everyone's truck is different (mods or stock). I am in a real learning stage right now. I've been around diesel tractors for years, this is my first diesel truck (always had gassers in past). No one can say for sure exactly what effect the new ULSD has on any of our engines, so for now I will listen to what everyone has to say and just try to do the right thing (for my truck). hmm, I would like to read the article. TDR is a good mag and usually has true information. Some magazines write info based on sponsers of the mag and who pays them more. But there would be no reason to write this one the way they do.
Now, with out reading it I would have to disagree. I have seen nowhere where they have listed an alternate lubrication in the fuel. The sulfur was a semi lubricant. being that the fuel now has lower sulfur it is lacking in lubricity. soany addidtivethat provides lub is good.
this summer I will be running straight 2 cycle. the stanadyne I was just running for the antigel agent for the most part.

I didn't read the TDR article but I did find this: http://www.frontiernet.net/~mopar197..._cycle_oil.htm don't know if it helps or not.

My biggest question is, what causes the noise to be reduced when running an additive? what is changing inside the motor to cause the reduction of noise?

There are several components inadditives that cause the engine to run smoother. One isCetane, which produces an even burn of the fuel. When the new ULSD came out, we learned that the new fuel didn't have the same lubrication properties as the old stuff. Not because of sulfer, but the process that removes the sulfer also removes the lubricating properties. I have tried different additives, and found the Stanadyne USLD works for me. Adding more than what is recommended doesn't do anything. I've checked the injectors after running 1/3 more than what was recommended. No clogging. Not running an additive seems to give me more lifter and injector pump noise- verified with a scope. I am guessing this is due to the lack of lubrication which may be wearing out my engine faster. It also misses about every 3 or 4 seconds due to the lack of Cetane. I figure everybody on here has done their own tests and knows what works best for them. Theseare just my simple observations. I'll attempt to attach a link with more info.

The move to lower sulfur content is expected to allow the application of newer emissions control technologies that should substantially lower emissions of noxious particulates from diesel engines, similar to changes that previously took place in the European Union. New emissions standards will apply in some states beginning in 2007.
