loss of acceleration
My fiance's truck lost acceleration last night and the engine light came on. He could put the pedal to the floor with no response. After he turned it off and restarted it he regained acceleration, but the engine light is still on. Does anyone know what might be causing this. He has 216,xxx miles on the truck and he also just bought fuel at a new station for the first time.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi and thanks!
It's a 2001. He called a mechanic last night and he said it may be a fuel pump. He is taking it to that mechanic to pull codes, but I just wanted to explore options other than a fuel pump. I can't believe how much those cost on a diesel!!![:@]

the injector pump (vp44) is the expensive piece... the best thing is to find out what the codes say... you may be able to use the key on-off-on-off-on meathod (no start, just to the run position) and the codes will come out the odometer. write them down and let us know.
this should also help... https://dodgeforum.com/m_340929/tm.htm aka merry christmas thread (service manual for 2001).
shouldnt they take the opportunity to put in a walbro or fass?

Thanks! He is at the mechanic's now. I just called him and read your posts. Said he would call me back. I was kind of hoping it would be just the fuel filter. lol

Hey, you're good! He just called and the mechanic thinks it is the throttle position sensor. He is going to reset it and if it does it again, he has a used one there. WHEW!
Thanks for your help!

glad to hear its something reasonable... the lift pump thing though, you may want to consider since the injector pump is so expensive. also you might want to start checking into added lubrication in the fuel... check Drews Brew thread at the top of the forum and/or the "2 stroke oil" thread being yapped on currently for info on added lubrication...
