glad to hear it's nothing serious... make you wonder though how the filter came loose...

I know its a major vibrating loud motor but I don't think that should have a big part in it but she doesn't sound like she used to. Its hard to decifer from a cummins sound and a knock. When I start in the mornings as a cold start I hear a hissing noise after it starts. Maybe my oil filter isn't seeting properly. Think it would make a hissing noise if a little pressure was escaping? Check my oil before I leave today and see what its leaking if any.

have you tried using 2 stroke in it to quiet it down? I just jumped on that bandwagon and noticed a significant reduction in motor noise while using it. if you can quiet it down some, maybe you can pinpoint the suspected noises...

Keeping in mind that I know nothing, I'm guessing that if your filter wasn't seated correctly and that hissing noise was comming from there, I'd thinkyou would notice a drop in your oil pressure on your gauge. Have you noticed a drop ??

if the filter was loose and not seated all the way, you'd be squirting oil.i'd expect it to vibrate it's way further and further down the housing until you start loosing lots of oil at 1 time.

the hissing noise could be alot of things... maybe not even pressure escaping. could be bearings on the alt, water pump etc... making noise until they warm up. I had a bmw alt do that once.

2 stroke ? I know nothing about it as far as can I ad it to my fuel when I am running PS and other lube and can you use it with Bio. I don't want a costly mistake cause I have no clue as to what I be doing. How much 2 stroke should I use?

I have noticed that my oil pressure is way high when I start it and runs about 50-60 PSi normal temp. Thats what the chips says, but when started on my panel gauge it says about 3/4 to high for about 10 minutes. That seems more than it used to a few weeks ago.

Theres a place here that does oil changes for $40, but thats using I think the cheap filter and semi-ok oil. Had it done once then I reverted back to good oil, ran better. I am just gonna do it again myself this time. He said he can find a leak if there is one. By the way I am using FRAM filter- anyone suggest a good filter that I don't have to order online? I had an old 1981 F100 years ago that blew FRAM filters of the motor almost daily for a week- then I bought a different brand and it was fine. That was a costly adventure then to.

Pics may not look as bad as it is but this is my dirty truck. I should post this on the other forum of "I cleaned my truck"

if your running bio then 2 stroke wont help (at least I dont think it would, bio is way better @ lubricating then straigt diesel from what I hear). go to Geno's garage it's a highly recommended place to get fuel & oil filters...

From what I've heard here, Fram = POOP

If you can't wait till you get one from Geno's, why not get one from the dealer or whoever else carries MOPAR parts? I hope that wherever you took your truck to have the oil changed used the correct oil for a diesel.

I'd get it outta there ASAP just to be sure.

NAPA has the Gold series filters. They are made by Wix. Can't remember the price off hand, but was very reasonable.

I'd stay away from the little orange cans of death.

A couple of things that you're saying are kind of concerning.

1 - You said it's making more / different noises than previously

2 - The leak

3 - You have higher than normal oil pressure.

This, to me, might indicate a blockage somewhere.

She can also use these oil filters: Pureolator, AC Delco, Motorcraft and Cummins, they are approved for use by Dodge or I should say they were in 2001.
