Default Intake Tubes

I have seene a couple of refrences to "gutting" the intake tube.

What exactly are you guys taking out of them and how do you do it and keep the stock tube?

they are talking about removing all of the baffling inside the tube... if you yank it off you'll see what they are talking about. one piece IIRC can pop out pretty easily, the other I think??? needs to be cut. I never messed with it since I have the AFE setup.

Steve is correct.
You can get an Airraid Jr kit which includes a dropin filter and a piece that replaces the piece between the air box and the turbo.
Or you can look into a torque tube that replaces the complete tubing from the airbox and turbo.
I believe Genos Garage casrries both.

My True-Flow Kit came with a replacement tube also. It is basically a silencer tube, to cut down turbo noise. I personally love the whistleand it had to go, also lets a lot more air flow.

Actually the crap in the down tube acts as a silencer and a weak *** directional vane to help direct air towards the turbo.

Look into the tube, you will see baffles that look like an X.
If you pop the top off using a broad head flat screw driver,(the snapping sound is the factory glue comming undone) the baffles will slide out, and then you can use a good epoxy to glue the top back on.
Make sure that it has glued correctly.
Produces a different sound and I love it, especially with a fresh air filter.
Easy mod to do yourself.
Good luck.

This mod should be viewed IMHO, as the same as the silencer ring removal, but it may have more air flow and generate the benefits of increased flow, but I felt no difference - will only be installing guages after the fact, so cannot comment on lower EGT's. - the turbo whistle is louder.
Hopefully someone else has more input for you.
