I have owned Chrysler products most of my life and I can’t believe that in my wife’s (new to her) 06 Sebring you can not run the oil any longer then 6 month or 6,000 miles no matter what kind of oil you use[sm=headbang.gif] I mean I could of understood it if it was a Flex Fuel engine running on 85% Alcohol being the Alcohol is very hard on oil you need to change it every 3K but it’s not a E85 engine [sm=icon_flaming.gif] I never thought such a new engine design would need to have the oil changed so often Grrrrrrrr [sm=badbadbad.gif]

That sucks, there is a good point to it though...at least it doesnt cost $100.00 to have it changed!

Well no its not 100.00 each oil change but 2 of them will cost almost what I pay for the oil change in my truck. You see the retail price of the oil is $9.95 a qt. times 5 qts = $49.75 and I think I can buy a Pure1 filter for under $10. for a total of 59.95 and then tax[:'(] I guess I'll need to be like Drew and become an Amsoil perfered customer so I can lower my oil change cost.

That or, just start buying 55 gal drums of it and cases of filters. That might be a big chunk up front but, in the long run... it will save trips to the auto parts store and your cost per quart will be much lower.

You know though....I think it's like dog food. If you read the recommended daily portions ( for instance, my dog is 110lbs. he eat's 2 cup of dry a day ) the bag tells me to feed him 6 cups a day ! He'd be 300 lbs if I did that. It's there way of getting you to buy more of their product. Not that you'll be buying oil from the dealer but, my point is....the manufacturers recommendations aren't always what needs to be followed.

Synthetic oil is commonly known to be ran longer than your typical oil. It seems to me, you could go much longer between the changes by using it.

I just read what a tech said over on the Chrysler board that if I went over 4K in-between oil changes even if I use good synthetic oil I will be replacing the engine with in 40 to 50K due to sludge. I can’t believe that DC did not learn from the big mistake that Toyota made a few years ago when they had engines that would build sludge and then not own up to the problems and it cost them big $$ when they got sued over it.

One sad thing is that I saw that Amsoil only makes their XL line of oil in 5w20 and they claim its good for 7500 miles. But when I used it in my wife’s Neon it started to burn oil until I switched over to their 25K 5w30 oil and then it quite burning it. The Amsoil XL is $6. A qt and the ASL is $7.95 a qt. I still don’t know why it stopped when I change over to the better oil as I was told it’s all the same oil just a different label, but I know think that information was wrong.

I just got an email from Amsoil that said I should use there 0w30 oil (Dodge said to use5w20) and it’s like $9.95 a qt, ($36.95 a gallon) that’s more then I pay for the Amsoil 5w30 HDD oil that I will be putting in my truck this spring and it only cost me $36.05 a gallon retail price. Dam Amsoil’s new low sulfur 5W40 is only $27.95 a gallon and their normal15w40 is only $27.70 retail. That must be some very dam good oil if it cost more then diesel oil does.
