Mine will crank right up if I dont wait,, which happens from time to time,,, I forget [:@]. One time it threw a code that said something about ambient temperature. I cleared it with my BD module and that was the end of it. Yesterday I jumped in and cranked it up without waiting, temp was like 45 F, it cranked right up, spit and sputtered for like three seconds and then that was it. I'm running the 2-cycle oil this tank, and that has made the engine run a little smoother and quieter also.

sometimes i forget also...oops...but it fires off everytime with no problems...question tho...how bad is it if the truck doesnt warm up completely between trips...say from work to school...its only a 10 minute drive for me twice a week. and the truck isnt warmed up...bad or no?

Mine takes a while to warm up when its 40 and below. I drive pretty easy until it warms up. It shouldn't hurt anything as long as you dont drive it hard while the engine is still cold,,, unless you wanna see the head fly [:@].

the head wont fly, but you will bend a lifter, rod, or worse crack a piston.

Main thing with deisel when running cold is piston damage. Pistons in diesels are forged aluminum which expand a lot quicker the the hyperutectic (sp) in gas engines. The pistons expand faster than the cylinders do causeing them to hang up (scoring). Also as drew said possible valvetrain damage. Mayfair, it will be harder on the starter because of the extended cranking (not really a problem if you have your truck plugged in)

Ive cranked at 35F without letting the heaters heat up. . .that was a nice smoke show
I noticed that today. I did the remote start thing today after work and i saw a quite a puff of soot come rolling out. Thing is though, since I'm already inside of the truck when normally starting the truck,I don't know if it always puts out a puff or not. It's weird, I felt guilty for not "waiting to start"

Nope, no glow plugs. Instead you have a grid heater in your intake kinda like a hairdyrer element I'm told.

these engines have NEVER had glow plugs. . .no need for them since the way the cylinders, pistons, head, and compression ratiois designed.

besides, it's something else to break/change out every so often, who needs that. . .

I think there is a 12 step program for that!
