LMAO !! I'm feeling the love ...

OK, here ya go. I pulg mine in at night and have it plugged into a timer set to go off 3 hours before I leave. I also have a 3 way adapter plugged into the timer with a light also plugged in so that I know that the block heater is getting the juice.

Here's some pics including my fancy schmancy charging pole ...

If you don't see it, it's probably not there. <---------Wow! That sounded a little harsh...(no offense)

What I mean is, most of them (unless it's sold in a cold climate) do not come with the plug and cord. The heater is installed in the block, but the cord is an option.

They are about $40 from the dealer, $20 on e-bay, $10 if you get it when you buy the truck or $10 from a local Cummins service center.

I live in N. Iowa and even on nights when it has been down to -13 below and it has sat un- started for 3 days I have been able to start my truck with out it being plugged in when its parked in my unheated garage. If you want to plug it in when the temps get below 10 degrees then 2-3 hrs of plug in time should be all you will need. Now if it gets in to the –10 to –25 below zero (not counting wind chill) then you may want to increase the plug in time. Do you have some type of winter front on your truck? If not having one sure helps it heat up faster.

Now if you still have 15w40 oil in your truck then its a good idea to have it plugged in any time the temps get below +7 as the oil will be very thick oil when it gets below 7 degrees above zero and when plugged in allows for easier start ups. Being you have an 02 I’m not sure if you can use 5w40 or not like I can in my 06 but IIRC you can use 10w30 for winter time and winter weight oil should be used any time the temps will go below +10 in between oil changes.

By having heavy weight 15w40 oil in your truck when the temps get below zero when you go to start it up, puts like 1,000 miles of wear on your bearings so it’s a good idea to use lighter weight oil in the winter. Also oil pour point is not the same as oil flow point. On average oil will flow at about 25-30 degrees above its pour point. Too help you understand it take a pint of oil you use in your truck and put it in a glass jar cover it and let it set outside over night at zero or colder, then next day see how well it will pour.

You said the Ford boy go start their trucks on break and then some still have to us starting fluid when its time to go home, poor souls. They need to buy a Cummins. Anyway as long as you don’t have any problems starting it after sitting for 8-9 hours then I say starting it on your brake time is a waste of fuel, your break time and in my opinion is unnecessary.

Yeah, I know it looks like a lot, but in reality it isn't. The two other cords that you see plugged into the power strip are a retratcable extension cord ( with nothing plugged into it ) and a retractable droplight. They WERE plugged into an outlet, but since I needed a spot for the timer and I wanted it to face a certain way so that I could see it ( I'm **** ) I came up with the power strip idea. The outlet that they are plugged into is one of 6 that are on a dedicated 20 amp breaker.
