Default Driveshaft Lube - EASY!

Otay fellers....

I got a little itch to screw around with the truck today and re-wired my winch power wires and lubed to d-shaft.

Found a 16 gauge grease needle was too big for the hole. 14 gauge needle worked PUUUuuuuurfect.

All I had to do was put a very slight bend (about 15*) and it went right on home.

Also, go from the drivers side in toward the center and you have plenty of clearance. What I mean is lay on your back and rotate the d-shaft so that the grease fitting is at a 45* angle facing down and toward the driver side of the truck. This clears pretty much everything. You'll know the joint if full when grease begins to seep back out the fitting.

It's hard to make lubing a driveshaft and not make it sound dirty. but you did good man.

That's strange that your driveline U-jointswould even have grease serks. Have they just started putting different U-joints in? My '05 Dodge U-jointsdidn't have grease serks untill the back one wore out and I had to get it replaceat ashop. The new one from Napa they put has a grease serk in it. The front one is still factory, just waiting wondering when it's goingto start to wear on me.

Some time in 2005 they started to add a sunken lube point to the front drive shaft up by the T-case. They also added a sticker under the hood to let people know it had one and of course they show it in the owners manual. Here is the URL for the photo Drew posted showing where to Lube at: https://dodgeforum.com/m_487238/tm.htm

where did you get the 14 ga. needle? I have 3 different brands and they are all the same thickness.

TIA

I can't remember off hand if it was Advance or NAPA. I believe it was Advance.

It was in a clear plastic safety cap. The 16's were in the white caps......if that helps at all.

I actually got lucky. I had bought two 16 gauge needles and then I remembered that I had another one and that was the one that fit perfect.
