1999 Ram diesel 2500, stop light will not turn off unless I pull the 20 amp fuse under the hood.
Emergengy flashers work. Turn signals work. Stop light stays on. Replaced brakelight switch and no results, stop light stays on. Can't figure out what to trouble shoot next.

 

Did you set the plunger depth on the brakelight switch? To install the switch properly you have to

1. Pull the plunger on the switch all the way out. It will make clicking noises as you extend it. It only extends about 3/8 to 1/2 inch so pull carefully. Now press the brake pedal all the way down. No need to bury it. (have someone hold the pedal down or use a block of wood or something).

2.Now install the switch, and then when it is secure, SLOWLY let the brake pedal back up. That will set the correct plunger depth. Do not let the pedal snap back.

3. Hopefully, your brake lights are now working properly.


4. If the switch is already installed, push down on the brake pedal, and extend the plunger with the switch in place. The plunger looks like a mushroom shaped object. It is what the brake pedal rod pushes against. Get beheind it with needle nose pliers, and extend the plunger carefully.

5. Again, release the brake pedal slowly and let it mate with the switch.

Probably not the problem but you might want to check the trailer plug on your truck. Mine had a short in it and the tail lights stayed on.
