My "guess" would be wheel bearings.

Jack one of the tires of the ground, grab it on top and bottom and pull alternately. Then do the same from side to side. If you are getting play, in all directions than most likely the bearings are shot. If you are getting play up and down, then it's ball joints, but these won't howl.

Only other thing it would be, but I doubt, is the gear set.

So if it is wheel bearing could i do this myself or would a dealer or mech have to do it? Me and my dad are pretty good with tools.

If you're semi-mechanically inclined, it's a driveway job.

The problem is that the bearings are not serviceable, you have to get the whole unit assembly, which can be pricey. From the dealer, I believe they are around $400 per side, but usually NAPA has them for around $230.

Here ya go, it's on the 2nd page. $204 w/o ABS, $254 w/ ABS
