Need help or info on 2005 CTD asap.
I just bought a used 2005 3500 with the ctd. My question is when the truck is idling and trans is in park, I step on the throttle just a bit and the rpm's shoot up to around 2200 rpms on its own and it start to surge and seems to sputter or misfire. It will do this with the engine hot or cold. I was talking to another Dodge owner and he said that it may have a chip installed or had the Ecm programmed by a handheld programmer. I am new to this engine and am wondering if there is a way to check if it has been reprogrammed or if this is another problem of its own? I did notice it has a cold air intake and a ram air hood. Any help would be great!
the best way to tell if it has been chipped would be to get a good rolling start 30mph, and lay into the throttle. . .if you blow smoke everywhere andhit 90 faster than sports car then it's chipped.
I cannot say for cirtian if there is or is not something on it. . .but if the thing is unGodly fast then you probably have something on it.

How about the idling problem?
Today I started it up and bumped it on high idle at 1500 rpm, then when inside while it was warming up. I went out about 10 mins later and the engine was running at 2300 rpm and was doing the sputtering thing. I hit the cancel button for the cruise and it wouldn't come down in rpm, I had to turn the ignition off.

that idleing problem I'm still trying to figure out. . .the only thing I can think of is that if you do have a program on it, somehow it is effecting the signals from the crank and cam sensors. . .
but as a side note on the sputtering, when was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

I finally got a answer from the dealer I bought it from. They said it did have a chip in it when it was traded in. They removed the chip when they did their inspection on it, at the same time they did do a service on the engine including the fuel filter. The saleman I bought it from told me that he talked to one of their service techs and they want me to bring it back to them and they will flash the ECM. They figure that when they removed the chip it may have screwed up the paramters causing this problem. I'm going to be taking it back for the flash in a few weeks and see if it cures it.
