is idleing bad???

I have a new '07 5.9 cummins and I have been told not to shut the truck off and start it a lot, people tell me to jsut let it run when you go into the post office and if your going to be getting back in it in 5-10 minutes to let it run cause starting and stopping the diesel's is bad on them. And i do a lot of driving and service calls for my business I drive over 1000 miles a week locally here around town so I do a lot of idleing. Well I come on the forums here and read all this stuff about idleing being bad and causing injectors to go. What should I do??? If I go to the stealer and have them turn on the manual high idle feature will it still hurt the truck to let it idle at 1000-1200 rpm a lot???

In the 47 and 48 series auto trans
it is true
that when extended idle in park
that the front TQ bushing may not get enough lubrication
and may wear slightly faster.
Idling with the parking brake on and the auto trans in neutral
is one way to mimimize this.

Sounds like an engine brake would be appreciated here...

One thing I do in the morning when I idle it, is to put in "D" and set the pparking brake. This brings your EGT's up between 150 - 200*'s higher, loads the engine a bit and flows fluid to the TC.

Also if the truck idles for a long period of time the temperature in the cylinders drop which can cause harm to the cylinder wall and or pistons.

not all the diesel combusts thus collects on the cylinder walls and replaces the oil that is supposed to be there, this will cause scoreing on the cylinder walls.
As some know I work in the oilfield. When we have service companies come out to do wire line or cement jobs etc. on our wells .The supervisors have CTDof Fordtrucks. They ALL let there trucks run the hole time they are on location. Most times its 24 hrs to 36 hrs. I myself have done the same thing. Heck look at trucks in Alaska or Russia. They never cut them off during the winter. I have seen myself our company truck, a Dodgein Alaska run for 5 mouths and then service it and fire it up again.
