manual to automatic transmission swap
i have a 1999 dodge ram 2500 with an NV4500 5 speed manual in it and was wondering if it's possible to swap it for a 48RE transmission...and if it was, what all needs to be swapped....as far as computers, sensors and the such. Any suggestions would be helpful and input about prior installations!

Well I don't know a whole lot on teh subject but my guess is it would be pretty costly and a lotta work I really just posted to say ur truck is friggin sweet looking. I always liked the trucks with the body color grill and bumpers. Very nice can tell it's well cared for.
well thank you! i've upgraded the tires to mickey thompson baja claws and they are a very nice touch compared to the toyo open country A/T's that were on it...a bit loud but very nice!
I'm not 100% on doing it, but my guess is taking out the tranny, change the steering column, patch hole in floor where stick was, take old clutch out and put new in(along with pedal), and reset computer to do the shifting. I'm either going auto to manual or a new pickup depending how Heavy Equipment/diesel engines classes go next year.
I dont think it is possable. you would have to replace the PCM and the ECM so the trans and the engine both know what each other is doing. now if you got a hydraulic trans and not an electronic one I could see it working, however the torque of the engine has been known to blow up the planitaries of said transmissions unless they are race trannies.
