Default Power Steering issues - HELP

The power steering on my 2005 2500 quit on me this weekend. If I keep the RPMs up I can turn, but at slow speeds/low RPMs I can't turn at all. It had worked fine up to that point. Dropped it off at the dealer last night and I just got a call. They told me the power steering was fine and that my tires were too big(325/60R20s), and the power steering was not powerful enough to turn the tires(what a load of cr*p). Funny how it worked just fine until now. Are there any know issues with power steering pumps on these trucks?

I definately have to find a better dealer.

did you ever check the fluid level? some trucks are known for blowing the cap off and spewing fluid everywhere

It more an issue of the steer gear not having enough power to turn a tire that big. If you have tires that big, I would suggest a steering assit ram. AGR Performance makes a "Rock Ram" system. Has what you need to turn the big wheels...

I would personally agree with the dealership. The steering gear is what will suffer first. The pump will follow. When the pump is failing, your brake pedal will become harder to apply because of the lack of assist by the ps pump.

Hope this helps.

Good luck with your ride.

I would definately agree that a larger tire puts more strain/stress on the pump and steering box. However, this failed at only 6500 miles. Completely on road use too. I have been a Ford guy until now and have always run at least a 35" tire on every truck (many) and had never had an issue. Period. It kind of bothers me that this pump failed so quickly. The other thing is the fact that I did some reseach and these PS pumps failing and/or leaking is very common.Even the head service guy told me that they change at least one a month, on stock trucks too. My question to them was " ifthese pumps are failing so often, why in my case it it the tires. How can he definatelively prove that" of course he had no answer.

I know that you have to pay if you want to play when it comes to mods on your truck. But again, in this case, it seems like a bogus answerto me. In addition, they told me that it is not possible to recalibrate my speedo from the stock tire size. I know that is absolutely not the case, but at that point, I was in no mood to argue. I will be going to a different dealer next time.

I just hopeproblems like this will not be the norm for this truck. Like I said, I'm new to Dodge and this is1st CTD. So far I absolutely love the features, ride and performance of the truck. I felt that the Ford quality has suffered inrecentyears and decided it was time for a change. Hopefully this will be the exception to the rule.

I owned a 2005 in 06 and was running 37x13.5 tires.bought the truck with 9k miles and by 15k my gearbox spewed along with a bad line and the dealer pulled the same bs with.tried to deny warranty and quoted the typical dealer "go take out a loan" estimate....... I lost it.....once his manager realized i wasnt an idiot....the next call i recieved was to tell me they were having my parts overnighted and i would have my truck back by 2:00pm the next day with a courtosy alignment with his appoligies.....of course they screwed up the alignment, was perfect before they went there
