Hehehe! So does removing the cat.

the retarded timeing for the EPA is a NOx issue. just giving two degrees does increase NOx emissions, but you also increase fuel mileage since the engine is burning the fuel more completely.

That sound likea good mod. I would like to get one but I am affraid that I wouldn't know how to install it? I have never set the timing on a diesel. Is there a certain way to put it in and hoow to adjust the timimg, or is it a simple bolt on and go. Also, does it cause damage to the engine when you are pulling. I am new to diesel mechanics and I know in a gas job if you advance it too much and pull with it she will detonate. Fell free to pic on me. -Jake

I'm new to diesel's and it was a piece of cake, you just order a Rokk sensor and get some blue lock-tight and in 15 minutes you will be done.
Remove one MM allen screw, pull out the crank sensor then remove the connector, plug in the Rokk put lock-tight on the screw reinstall pushing up on the sensor and your done.

My understanding is that Cummins had to set the timing back a few degrees to make the EPA happy and by doing this to the timing we got poor mileage but lower NOx emmisions. So by setting the timing back up 1-2 degrees we will get the fuel to burn better and get better mileage.

It is a little louder during cold starts. It says if you notice the knock, push on accelerator a little and it will go away when the ecm changes fueling parameters. I don't idle mine more than about 10 min. and drive slow for the 1st couple of miles then the knock dissapears. Just out of curiousity, is anybody using the rokktek and the xillaraider xzt?
