Default Mag-Hytec capacity

I just ordered a Mag-Hytec for my 11.5 AAM, it says the capacity of the diff is now 8 quarts. Royal Purple 75w140 is $11/quart. Almost $100 bucks for a diff change?! Shees!! Can anyone confirm the capacity?

I used a little more than 3 quarts when I changed mine. Be careful with the gasket , it is reuseable.

I used about7 1/2 qts to change the rear diff fluid on my 06 ram after I puta Mag-Hytec rear diff cover on. I used Amsoil 75w-90. Amsoil is less expensive than Royal Purple but it still hurts the wallet pretty bad.

Ok guy I got to ask just, what do you haul all of the time that requires you to need a new diff cover that will increase the capacity from 4 qt’s to 8 quarts of oil? I’ve seen many that haul a lot of weight and they have no problems with the stock capacity and they don’t burn out their rear ends.

If you use high quality synthetic oil like Amsoil SVG, Redline or even Schaeffers & Royal Purple, I can’t see the need for the extra 4 qt’s of oil. Being in the past I’ve seen 85/90-weight dino oil hold up for 25-30K it’s hard for me to understand why! Now I can see people wanting to having a cover that has a drain plug for ease of changes but not doubling the capacity.

When I am towing my boat (about 5500 lbs) over the mountains is Southern California in August with a temperature up to 110 degrees I want all the cooling I can get, in any fashion. I also plan to buy a toy hauler soon, and that will make my boat feel like a dinghy. But truly it’s a question of what makes me feel comfortable. Do I REALLY NEED the cover and added oil? Maybe not. Do I want it? YES. As a side plus I also get magnetic drain plug.
