both of my dogs hit the pavement about 25mph when they were a year old, no major damage but they haven't thought about it again in 8 years. i can go into walmart for two hours and come back out and they're still hangin out.

I started out by putting my dogs in the back, closeing the tail gate and leaving them in there awhile. Did that several times. Then I would drive around the block. The whole deal took awhile. Baby stepps.

 

run a ratchet strap from side to side of the bed. give the dog a very short leash to avoid hangings.

It took me a couple of years to get my wife house trained, every time I mentioned fooling around, shed run outside and jump in the backseat of my truck

 

Ladybug said are you crazzy, she seen it done but doesn't know why they don't just ride in the back seat.

 

i started mine at 3 months old. i lived on the school farm and so she had all the room to run that she wanted. when i started going taking her with me i tied her in. i tied her short first so she couldnt reach the sides and slightly longer each time. eventually i didnt need anything and she never tried to jump out when driving. good luck and just take ur time.

 

my little guy will sit on the center console while I'm driving. . .unless he's worn out then he'll get in the back and stretch out.

 

Doesn't sound so "little" to me ....
