Problem SRT-10 Quad
Interesting situation. Has a wheel shake that starts around 75mph.
New rotors have been put on, the wheels have been swapped out for wheels/tires off another SRT-10, and the wheels ride perfectly fine. No dented rims, not out of balance. Driver's side hub has been replaced and now another one is on order. The driveshaft has been replaced also.
Im thinking one of two things. Im unsure about the suspension setup of these trucks, but do they have bushings and could they possibly be bad?
Another thing, the hose clamps being removed from a driveshaft without a techs prior knowledge of this neccessary part could also cause an issue. As well as the driveshafts having weights on them. If its not properly balanced, could this cause a shake as well?
Im dumbfounded as to how this truck still shakes, with everything being replaced.
Its while accelerating and driving normally, not under braking, which rules out the rotors.

An out-of-balance drive shaft can absolutely make a vehicle shake but you said it was replaced. The chances of two driveshafts causing that much shaking are pretty remote. Yet, for peace of mind you might want to have the balance checked. I take it you are having service center looking at it. Keep after them until they find the problem.
One other thing you might check. A few of the trucks had the harmonic balancers become loose. Double check that.

Oh god no I wish I got an SRT-10 Ram, I will have one some day. This is a friend of mine's truck, and the dealership just is being a tard, I figured Id get some input from you guys.
The only thing I can think wouldve happened with the driveshaft would be that the tech that put it on didnt understand that it needed to have the weights and hose clamps on it in order to maintain the balance of the vehicle. But like you said, the second time around, unlikely. Unless it was severely jumbled around during shipment, which is also a possibility.
Ill check into the harmonic balancers, and see what they say as far as thats concerned. They keep saying its the hub, but Putting two hubs on in less than 2,000 miles and saying both were warped....WAY more unlikely than the driveshaft being unbalanced the second time.

well, every weighted driveshaft that i have seen had the weights welded on. if the steering wheel is shaking, i would have to think that it is an issue with the front tires/rims. but you say that the tires and rims have been swapped? has the alignment been checked, for what its worth?
Yes the rims were swapped. The rims/tires from the Quad were put on the Reg cab SRT-10 and vice versa. The Quad still shook and the Reg. cab still drove like glass. And yes I also mentioned the alignment to them, since they haven't done a software upgrade there since 2002, and this is an 05/06 Model truck. Im not sure if it was sent out to be aligned, but Ill be mentioning that to them also.
Im confused.....
Im confused.....
i am also baffled...if theyve changed the hub assemblies, the brake systems, and the wheels/tires, i would think that it has to be a front end suspension.

As would I. Potentially bushings. Which is what ends up being replaced in the SRT-4s if the vibration cannot be fixed by any other means possible.
Ill see what happens Monday, when the truck goes in next. But like big asp said, there were a select few with bad harmonic balances. And thats one thing I KNOW doesn't come to peoples mind first and foremost when dealing with a vibration. But its a possibility.

but if it was a harmonic balance issue, i would think that you could simulate it by just sitting still and holding it at a steady high rpm..no?
I dont think they've tried that yet....worth a suggestion though. Its unlikely that they even thought to rev the engine. They probably think that if its shaking at low speeds that its just normal because of the engines power.
We're dealing with supreme tards here....keep that in mind LMAO.
