2005 Quad cab srt??
Hi guys,
I currently own a 2004 Dodge ram 1500 QC short bed with the Hemi. Ive only owned it for about 4 months, but I'm already bored of it.
I saw a '05 Red Quadcab Srt-10 locally here just crusing around. I loved the way it looked. I sat in one a few days ago, and i was very impressed, I didnt get to drive it but i did start it up and all i can say is WOW!!
Now to my question. I'm going to be selling my Ram in the next month or so. I'm just not sure what my next truck would be. I've narrowed it down to either a big 4x4 diesel or the quad cab Srt-10. They are both the same price.
I just want to know what you guys that own that quad cab viper truck think of it. Does it really perform well.
How does it perform in the wet stuff? My current ram slips and slides all over the place when its raining. Can you really feel the 500 horses? Also, are there any problems I should look for when buying.
I can get one locally here for about $35000 with only 15,000 miles on the clock. Is that a good price? And Finally any options that I must have when buying this truck.
Thanks so much for your help, its greatly apprecited.
P.S. What colors did the '05 quad cab come in?

Well, I'm one of the few that don't drive mine like I won the lottery. I'm easy on the throttle from starts most of the time. But even so, I've never had it spin. Once you get used to it you can feather the throttle enough, although it sure could be a problem if you're not careful. I have 0 problem with the handling in the wet too...then again, I'm not talking about a 90 deg turn at 120 either. I had an '03 Lightning and it was much more nervous than my SRT, and even though it's a reg cab to quad cab comparison, I'd dare say the same would hold true for the reg cab SRTs. Plus, I really like the Quad Cab. Once you get used to that room in the back, a regular cab truck of any kind just doesn't cut it...unless it's a play truck.
I like my SRT-10 as good as any truck I've ever owned (95 1500 Silverado w/ Diesel (rare bird!), 01 F-150 4x4, 03 Lightning, 04 F-150 FX4, 05 F250 PSD FX4), and out of that range it's by far the best fit for me. Diesels are great, but I just don't get the use out of them, same with 4x4. Around here (NC), on the rare occasion wintry weather does come around it'd usually be ice so 4x4 is useless in that anyway. I don't drive like a lunatic, but I do enjoy the handling, I LOVE the brakes, and the power is nice when you want to use it. As far as options, there aren't too many, but I'd make sure I got the Sirius option (if it is an option...I don't even know if it's standard or not on SRT-10s). It's muuuuuch better than crappy, plain old radio.
I just have no complaints about the truck. It's powerful, nimble and controlled, well-built, and just flat-out neat! $hitty gas mileage aside, no complaints at all! And that's not even a complaint really. Part of the territory.

Welcome to the dark side ;-) Just bought my SRT-10 single cab this week....the quad cab was not an option because I could not find it in a stick....while I can't necessarily talk to the quad cab, I might have some insight to your issue....
I previously owned an 03 HO CTD Quad Cab 6spd 4x4 dually......I loved it......room for 5, 300 hp and 600 ft/lb of torque.....I could pull a 40 ft double framed gooseneck loaded with two of the biggest jeeps (one on 40's and other on 42's) down the road at 80mph with ease....unloaded, it was like a race car....I got 18mpg unloaded, 13 mpg with one jeep on a bumper pull, and 9mpg pulling the gooseneck and 28,000 total pounds.....for $35k you listed below, you can get one with about 15k miles in good shape......unfortunately, I don't need to tow anymore, and it's not practical for my lifestyle....tough to park, doesn't fit in well with my limited commute and activities....
My new SRT single cab.....it rocks....great seats, styling, and incredible performance.....only thing that sucks is the mileage....if you drive high miles or need a truck for towing/rough stuff, get the diesel.....otherwise, welcome ;-)
I didn't get the quad SRT because I didn't want an auto....

I just picked up my 06 SRT-10 Quad Cab 3 nights ago.. I also don't drive it like I won the lottery...but the power is great... I dont intentionally spin the tires.. but I do catch rubber easily from 1st to second, and occasionally 2nd to drive (but I usually run out of room!!)
The 0-60 is amazing..... the looks I get are as if to say "what the hell is that thing", or one at a gas station was "that is one bad a** truck"
I have had a couple of ricers with fart can exhausts challenge me.......generally I ignore them (as if I have to prove it to them..) but if they have their lady friend with them... I spank them like the red headed step child... then look back.. and see her yelling at him....
I traded my 2002 Durango SLT in on it.. and dont regret it one bit.
I bought the Quad Cab because I do need to tow occasionally... I have a enclosed box trailer that I haul my 2004 Tatum Long Travel Sand Car (600hp) around in.. usually I haul it with my motorhome.. but locally I need to sometimes get it around town.

I live off 83rd and union hills. I'm pretty sure I saw your truck at Dannys family car wash next to circle K. I think it was on monday.
All I can say is that is one Bad *** truck.

I don't own but I have driven one and its an awesome truck. When you get on a open road you just can't help but give some extra throttle
I say go for it. Like the others said gas mileage is a problem but when you are buying a 35k car gas should not really be a concern but spending over $60 to fill it on 93 octane is not fun thats when premium was around 2.60 a gallon.

Good post guys! I too am getting the bug. I have my 05 Hemi the way I want it and also am bored. I found a 05 with 5K for just under 33K and a 04 with 8.6K for just under 31K, both std cab. Leaning towards the 05 because I do not want black!! Plus the 05 is red and would match my RT10.
Questions are....
1. Any performance differences from 04 to 05?
2. How are the seats wearing? They seem like they could have wear issues.
3. Anyone haul a good size load in the bed? What is the capacity? I assume it is not 1/2 ton due to the suspension. Oh, does the wing come off easy for hauling?
4. What are my aftermarket exhaust options and how do they sound?
5. Other than exhaust (I am juist after sound more than performance boost) what are some other must do mods to squeeze out a couple more HP?
6. I would keep for 3-5 years, are these trucks depriciating fast? If I bought a 05 for 32K is it resonable I can get 24, 25, 26 in 4 years? The truck would only get 3K a year and not see any weather.

brakes have been upgraded for the '05 as well as the rear end went from a 4.10 to a 4.56
i have a magnaflow exhaust and am happy with it.
you cant tow with the reg. cab. upgrade the clutch to a more durable one people are changing that out quite frequently.
as far as value they might go up for the rumor is june is the last month of production for the srt-10 ram
the wing comes off and is held on by 2 or 4 what appears to be sheet metal screws.
also got to www.srt10forums.com good buch of guys, lots of knowledge and they have an answer for almost every scenario.
