4 cats
I was reading old posts today and saw that srt 10'shave 4 cats.I am wondering how much exhaust flow is being reduced by these.
It seems that the rear cats have no sensors so the pcm can't see them.
As a young man my father and I used to buy and repair older cars for resale and many of them were running badly because of stopped up cats.
We found out that removing the exhaust pipe from the rear of the cat and breaking up the honeycomb structure into small pieces and starting the car to blow them out was a cheap fix.
So what about these rear cats on the truck. Is it worth the trouble or not?
I have a borla cat back exhaust coming and will have the access when installing it.

It could. If DC can prove that the failure was a result of the mod they will not honor the warranty.
For example, lets say that a fuel injector goes bad, well the cats would ot have anything to do with that so they would have to honor the warranty.
However, lets say you blow the engine. They COULD say it was a result of the engine running to rich andit was running to rich because of no cats and aftermarket O2 sims.
Do you have a 04 or 05? If you have an 04 there is a chance your warranty is up anyhow.

Yes that would be easier but do you think it would affect the warranty.
Thanks

I saved my two mid's w/cat's so I can exchange for the inspection.

Does not effect the warranty, have been running NO/cat's for over a year now. One of the better mods for the $$$. You just have to watch-out for the MAN.....

Technically speaking DC could void your powertrain warranty due to the changes. However, it has always been my experience that minor exhaust mods under the vehiclego largely ignored by dealers and techs, as they are unlikely to cause any issues.
Start messing around under the hood with headers and such and you're playing with fire. You may think you have an understanding with your service manager, but if something big happens that's going to cost a lot of money tofix or replacethe regional rep can nullifythat quickly and at best you'll have a nice legal battle on your hands.

I guess I will leave them as is for now since I purchased the 5/50 extended warranty and have coverage till 2010.
The beauty of it is that they would have to look up the pipe with a flashlight to tell that the cat had been modified but I'm much more worried that they honor the warr. than the 2 or 3 horses it might have made.
From what i have read my x-metal flash with k&n and the borla exhaust will be a big difference anyway.
Will post again after everything is in place

I will say this. The factory cats and muffler are very restrictive. Guys have gained almost 40HP just by eliminating or replacing the midpipes and cats and going with a straight-thrumuffler from Billy Boat or Magnaflow.
These are relatively low risk mods that are easily reversed if youkeep your factory exhaust system to put back on in the event of a problem.

I know my truck has a little more get up and go. I have put on Belanger long tubes, catless mids and a magnaflow cat back. However it is fairly noisy, which I do not mind at all, but some do.
